Africa

From 1968 through 1972 I lived and worked in Africa,  as Chief Pilot and Senior Game Warden for the Game Department, of the Ministry of Agriculture and Tourism, in Tanzania, East Africa. These are pictures from my station in Tanzania, 5H3LV and a DX-pedition I went on with Bill Amdal, LA6GF/5H3KJ to Latham Island, Zanzibar in early 1970.

5H3LV

5H3KJ/A & 5H3LV/A

In addition to African DX-peditions I Operated from Liechtenstein as HB0XTH in 1972. In 1978 I operated from Montserrat in Caribbean as VE3HO/VP2M, and from New Zealand as ZL0AWE.  In the Canadian Arctic in  1989 I  operated as CI8HO/VE8HO from the airport at Resolute on Cornwallis Island. A visit to the Western Pacific in 1999 allowed me to operate as KH2/VE3HO from the island of Guam during the month of January between work hours.

Prior to going to Africa in 1968 I was in the Canadian Navy for 3 years and during this time I operated from Canadian Navy Ships docked in Scotland, England, Gibraltar, Malta, Cyprus, Bahamas,  Bermuda, and at sea as Maritime Mobile from the Canadian Destroyer HMCS Haida, VE0NV/CGJD and the Canadian Aircraft Carrier HMCS Bonaventure, VE0NE/CGLE. There are no logs still existing that I know of for these operations onboard these Canadian Warships.
