What I know of my Grandfather
Grandpa Whittaker arrive in Winnipeg at the age of 19 in 1902. He worked for the railway (CPR) as a Paymaster. Later he sold real estate in North Battleford, and was a Grocer in Saskatoon. He owned a chain of 20 Blue Bird Groceterias prior to WWII, 17 in Saskatoon, 2 in Prince Albert, and 1 in North Battleford. According to my mother he sold his stores to Safeway under duress from unethical pressure tactics by the big corporation and fear if he did not give in he would be ruined. In 1949 he retired completely and moved the family to West Vancouver, BC where he died in 1951 at the age of 68.

He was married to Daisy Lavinia Ida Ferguson (daughter of Henry Ferguson and Lydia Martha Unite) on 22 Sep 1910 in Winnipeg Manitoba. Daisy Lavinia Ida Ferguson was born on 11 Mar 1882 in Kingston Surrey England. She immigrated in 1895 to Winnipeg MB. She died on 19 Feb 1962 in Richmond BC. Unite Family were Tent and Awning Makers to the Royal Family in the Reign of Queen Victoria. Grandma Whittaker s Aunt was one of the official Milliners to Queen Victoria. Grandma Whittaker arrived in Canada at the age of 3 with her Family to Winnipeg MB. She graduated from University in Winnipeg. Born in Kingston on Thames would have made her a Cockney having been born within the sounds of the bells.
She was a semi-invalid for all the years I knew her and was cared for by her daughter Enid, my mothers younger sister, until she died in 1962. Harold Whittaker and Daisy Lavinia Ida Ferguson had the following children:

child+6 i. Phyllis Daisy Whittaker.
child+7 ii. Enid Margaret Whittaker.
