FOURTH GENERATION
58. Martha Augusta Richardson
(1) was born on 31 Jul 1884. She died
in 1940. Notes from Juanita Case in 1985
Thomas' daughter Mitty named after her gradmother was his youngest child and
stayed at home with her parents unti she was seveteen. Her parents were older
and full of rhumatism and Thomas spent long evening telling his daughter Mitty
about his early life and the story of his pioneer parents and his brothers and
sisters. Thomas was the youngest child of a family of fourteen children and he
had spent the most time with them when they were older and had time to tell him
stories.
Our family was descended from the oldest son John of the pioneer family who left
home at ayoung age to make his own way in life. there probably was little time
for story telling at this stage of their lives and nothing seemd to have been
passed down. No one seemed to know anything about their ancesters. This it is
with great excitement that we discovered the following story "unto the third
and Fourth Generation" written by Gussie Clossen, daughter of Mitty, and
grandaughter of Thomas. It is Mitty's story as she told it to her daughter Gussie
in fairfax Maine about her young life in Clifton and then her married life in
the U.S. and the stories she was told by her father back in Clifton and what
he remembered of his childhood and parents. It is the story of four generations.
Gussie Clossen was a poet and had many of her poems published in Maine papers.
She also wrote other stories. The manuscript of this story was never published
and was found after her death by Juanita Case, the wife of her nephew, in a drawer
in its handwritten form. Juanita typed it up.
These waldron descendants in Maine at this time knew nothing of their Clifton
relatives and it was Juanita who got in touch with me (Mildred Waldron) and she
and her husband came up to visit in Clifton. She loaned me the manuscript and
I made copies of it. we are much indebted to her for the information gleaned
about our ancesters from Gussie's story. Martha Augusta
Richardson and Harry I Closson had the following children:
