Grave of James and Mary Hamilton in Maple Leaf Cemetery near Randboro Compton County Quebec photo October 2000. There are no known pictures of James and Mary or of their other children even though they died at a time when pictures were possible.

Matthew Hamilton's family taken sometime in the mid 1890's Hattie, Frank, Hugh, Justin, Effie, Irene, Bertha, Matthew missing is Lelia who died in 1884 at 8 years 10 months old and Eva Mayo Irene's daughter by her first husband. Bertha was born in 1888. Bertha died in 1902 at age 13 yrs 6 mo. photo from Bernardston collection

Bertha about 1890 and 1900 from Bernardston Collection marker in the Sherbrooke Cemetery in  October 2000

Effie and Frank Stanley married in Compton County and had had four children that I know of Irene, Howard, Ernest and Edna, but nothing more. They ran the general store in the Hamilton Block in Sidney MB from 1900 to 1916 but after that I do not know where the moved to. .

Hattie and George Greenley had two children that we know of Vivian and Hazel. The one birth was announced in the Toronto Paper. We have other documents and photos that show them in Vancouver BC and have found relatives living in Manitoba in 2003.

I have a great deal of information on Hugh, my grandfather and his brother Justin but the three siblings shown here appear to be  lost to us. Their where aborts and those of their descendants are unknown to us. I had one contact from someone doing research for an adopted child trying to trace roots to a Francis S. J. Hamilton but nothing more was ever heard. This web site is part of our search strategy hoping to attract those who are related and may also be seeking or searching for their roots. I know Frank ran a general store in the Hamilton Block in Sidney MB from about 1900 to 1916. I have no pictures of Eva Mayo their half sister who married Egbert Cairns. They were is Sidney MB with the rest of the family at 1900 and by 1911 were in Bernardston MA.

I have now discovered who Frank married and where he married. I know he was sickly and died in Unity in middle age. His wife ran a tea room for awhile so I am told. He had three children that I know of Alice, Florence and Charles.

Unity Saskatchewan

Matthew's cottage in Unity. picture was taken in august 2000 and I was shown the location by Sally Neigum who worked for Justin and his wife on their farms near Unity. Much smaller home than the one he had in Sidney.

Hugh and Fanny (Carr) Hamilton taken in Unity about 1938. Hugh died in 1941. After Hugh's death Fanny lived with her son Lyle in Pitman NJ until her death in 1969

After her death in 1969 the family had her ashes returned to be buried beside her Husband in the family plot in Pleasantview Cemetery in Unity Saskatchewan. Their markers are on the far end of the plot. Matthew's stone is the large one in the center and Justin and his wife are on this side of Matthew. It is believed that Frank and his wife lie in this plot as well though unmarked.

Hugh's home in Unity is surrounded by a large hedge but my finger also got in the way. NW corner of 3rd Ave and 1st St. East. House was for sale in 2003. Picture was taken in 2000.

The rear of the house of 1st St. East.

This is the building that served as Hugh's Massey Ferguson, and Dodge dealership so my mother says but I found evidence that he sold Pontiac's in 1935 and was a Frontenac Gas retailer

These pictures were taken in August 2000 while visiting Don Wallace and his family who shares with me Matthew as a great grandfather.
