Death of Samuel Pierce
Jr
Samuel Pierce died suddenly at the age of 90 years at the home of his daughter
Mrs. Alfred Waldron on Marlboro Road. he had been in good health almost to the
end and death was unexpected. he got up in the morning and dropped dead. he was
born March 11, 1818 in Brompton, Quebec and spent many year of this life there.
His wife Betsy Chase was from the same town. She died about 15 years ago. he
was always a farmer. About 35 years ago he moved to the states with his family
and finally located in Bernardston, Mass. where he lived fifteen years. Then he
went to Vernon where he lived six years and come to W. Brattleboro about two
months ago with Mr. and Mrs A. Waldron who bought the George A Bennett farm.
He leaves four children, Mrs (Maria) William Taylor of Bernardston, Mass. Mrs (Irene)Matthew
Hamilton of Sidney Manitoba, Frederick Pierce of Cedar Falls IA. and Mrs
(Elizabeth) Alfred
Waldron with whom he had lived, and a brother Gosford Pierce who lives in Brompton
Quebec. Mr Taylor and Mrs. Slate of Bernardston, Mass. were among the out of
town relatives present for the funeral.
He had lived with his daughter for over 16 years. he was a man of marked characteristics
and had been a member of the Universalist Church of his native town since young
manhood. the funeral was at his home at 2 p.m. Rev. E.Q.S. Osgood officiated
and four grandsons, Egbert and Homer Waldron, Egbert Cairns and Douglas Parker
were bearers. the body was taken to Moe's River Quebec for burial beside that
of his wife. He was married to Betsy (Elizabeth) Chase (daughter of
Francis Chase and Sally Pike) on 23 Mar 1841.
Betsy Chase was born on 10 Aug 1811. She died in 1893. She was
buried in Moes River, QC. Samuel Pierce Jr and Betsy Chase had the following
children:

Dennison Fredrick Pierce. Grandmother Carr say Dennison Fredrick was married
twice, the second time to a lady of means from the United States. No Mention of
names.
