234. Richard Henry Lowry
was born on 2 Jan 1942 in Sherbrooke, Quebec.
Lorraine Marion Brown (daughter of John Robson Brown
and Marion Ruth Davis) was born on 3 May 1946 in Ottawa,
Ontario. He was married to Joan Agnes Arbery on 18 Jun 1966 in St. Andrew's
Presbyterian Church, Sherbrooke, Quebec. notes from Alan Ross Parker
PBBBDEC Richard Henry Lowry, born January 2, 1942 at Sherbrooke, QC. On his
9th birthday he was 4'-7½" tall, weighed 81 lbs., and was a Cub Scout
and in Grade III.
Richard provided the following information in e-mail letters dated January 16
and 18, 2000.
Richard attended Sawyerville High School and Sherbrooke Technical School.
During his working career, Richard has worked for the Standish Bros. in Cookshire,
QC during the summer of 1960; Canada Glazed Paper, in Toronto, ON for three months
in summer of 1961. He started studies at Sherbrooke Technical School in the
fall of 1962, left there and joined Bell Canada on December 10, 1962, working
with Bell for 31 years. During that time he worked at the following locations:
400 King Street, Sherbrooke, QC December 1962 - June 1963, when he transferred
to Drummondville, QC; transferred to Sorel, QC in June 1964; to Victoriaville,
QC in June 1965. During this period Richard lived in Sawyerville, QC. In November
1969 Richard requested a transfer to Ottawa, ON. He worked for his entire career
as a central office technician with network maintenance. As a Craft, from 1962
to 1980 and then as a Level 1 manager until he retired in February 1993.
On June 18, 1966, at the St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Sherbrooke, Richard
married Joan Agnes Arbery. Joan was born on December 31, 1944, the daughter
of Euphemia Mary Isabella Calback and Nathan Irvin Arbery. Joan was born and
raised in Sherbrooke, QC and graduated from Sherbrooke High School. Joan started
working for Bell Canada as soon as she finished high school, working at 400 King
Street as well, but Richard and Joan did not meet there. Joan was quick to learn
and was promoted to management within a short time. When they were married she
transferred to Victoriaville, and continued to work for Bell until their first
child, Steven, was born in 1967.
"Joan was a devoted mother and housewife until the children were grown and
all in school full days. As a devoted mother Joan had the family all attending
church and being involved with the community. After the children were in school
full time, Joan started to pursue her career again. She became the church secretary
for a United Church in Ottawa. She took art lessons privately and from Ottawa
University, and then started a ladies art group. She has her paintings in several
places in North America. Her specialty was custom work for people, mostly scenery.
On the home farm in Low Forest, Sawerville, QC we had a sugar camp. Joan sold
more paintings of this than anything else. She did oil colours as well as water
and she was very good, if I do say so myself.
All was going well for us until May 25, 1988. This is a day I will never forget.
I had just returned home from work at 5:05pm, Joan had driven a neighbours daughter
home, she had been taking piano lessons from Susan at our house. Joan had dropped
off April and was on her way home, but she did not make it. As the police report
stated, she failed to stop at the intersection, which was about 300 yards behind
our house, and her car was hit broadside by a full-sized van. She was killed
instantly. Life can have some very interesting turns in it and this was one
we were not expecting. Joan's health was good; there had never been any medical
problems of any kind. She wore corrective glasses all her life, and at the time
of the accident she was wearing her contacts. A careless mistake that changed
our lives forever."
The car accident took place in Carlsbad Springs, ON. Joan is buried in the Cemetery
in Ramsayville, ON, southeast of Ottawa, ON. Joan Agnes
Arbery was born on 31 Dec 1944 in Sherbrooke, Quebec. She died on 25 May
1988 in Carlsbad Springs, Ontario. She was buried in Ramsayville, Ontario.
Richard Henry Lowry and Joan Agnes Arbery had the following children:
+483 i.
Steven Richard Lowry.
+484 ii.
Susan Mary Lowry.
485 iii.
Jennifer Ann Lowry was born on 10 Apr 1973 in Ottawa, Ontario. notes
from Alan Ross Parker
PBBBDECC Jennifer Ann Lowry, born April 10, 1973 in Ottawa, ON. Jennifer attended
Glen Ogilvie Primary School, Emily Carr Middle School both in Blackburn Hamlet,
ON, Gloucester High School in Ottawa and graduated from Ottawa University with
her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Jennifer received her primary and middle
education in French immersion and has her grade 8 in piano conservatory.
After graduation from Ottawa University, Jen moved to North Caroline, USA, so
that she could apply her training and receive experience, as there were full
time work opportunities to be had in Ontario. Jen was in Tarboro, NC from November
1996 to June 1997 and then relocated to Scranton, PA to be closer to home, only
a 5 hour drive away. This was her first time away from home, what a experience!
Jen stayed in Scranton from July 1997 until March 1998, at which time she was
able to find enough hours of work in Ottawa to allow her to move back home.
On her return she was able to purchase her own home on Farmers Way, Carlsbad
Springs. Jen has always worked in the Labour and Delivery section of the hospitals.
In Ottawa she worked at the Riverside Hospital, until it closed due to restructuring.
She now works full time at the Ottawa General Hospital.
