46. John Cory was born on 16 Nov 1826 in Devon, England. He emigrated in 1851 from From Devon England. He immigrated in 1851 to Canada. He appeared on the census in 1861 in Age 32 Carpenter. He appeared on the census in 1881 in Farmer. He appeared on the census in 1901 in Immigration date & Method. He died on 12 Sep 1913 in Mariposa Township, Ontario. He was buried in Cemetery, 1007 Quaker Rd. RR#1 Oakwood, Mariposa, Ontario. He was in Bible Christian.
Notes from Dora Hamilton;

In 2001, I found what is locally referred to as "the Cory Cemetery" or the "Bethel Christian Cemetery". The location is 44° 21' 32" N and 78° 52' 02" W. The Address is 1007 Quaker Road, R.R.#1, Oakwood Ont. Just East of the county road 6 also know as Oakwood Road. Quaker Road is the second concession north of Oakwood, Ontario.

It is believed the cemetery was on the corner of Hugh Cory's land where he allowed a Bethel Christian (Bible Christian) church to be built. The cemetery was on the church land. The Church is gone and a home stands on the original site of the Church.

Mr. Reg Garbutt is the current owner of the farm at 1025 Quaker Road, which is believed to be the original Hugh Cory farm. Mr. Garbutt advised that when the road was last rebuilt and graded maintenance work was done of the cemetery. The stones were gathered up. All the remains in the very shallow graves were placed in common grave capped in asphalt. The stones were laid in the asphalt In August of 2001 the owner of the land next to the cemetery was a Mr. Mitchell who was maintaining the Cemetery in good order.

Hugh Cory who died 30 Dec 1897, age 82 yr. 4mo 24 days, his wife Margaret Graham died 3 Feb 1921 in her 84th year. (At this time I am still trying to confirm Hugh Cory's relationship to John Cory, however, I suspect that they were related, perhaps brothers)

Christiana Cory, Wife of Thomas Cory who died 24 Marcy 1874 at age 84 years 11 months, and 6 days. (Christiana was John Cory's mother) No record of Thomas Cory's has been found in Canada. It is suspected that he died in Devon England before the family immigrated in 1851.

He was married to Elizabeth Hopper on 28 Dec 1859. Elizabeth Hopper was born in Sep 1837. She immigrated in 1854 to From England. She appeared on the census in 1861 in Age 22 married to John. She appeared on the census in 1881 in Age 45. She was in 1881 in Bible Christian. She appeared on the census in 1901 in Age 64. She died on 8 Jan 1902. She was buried in Cemetery, 1007 Quaker Rd. RR#1 Oakwood, Mariposa, Ontario. John Cory and Elizabeth Hopper had the following children:

52 i. Elizabeth Grace Cory appeared on the census in 1861 in Age 2. She was born on 20 Aug 1861. She appeared on the census in 1881 in Age 21. She appeared on the census in 1901 in Age 38 living with John Cory family. She died on 27 Mar 1923. She was buried in Cemetery, 1007 Quaker Rd. RR#1 Oakwood, Mariposa, Ontario. She Know As in Grace. Elizabeth Grace Cory most likely went by the name of Grace.

She was never married.

She was buried with her parents - there is no marker for her grave but there is a notation on the side of the marker for her parents John and Elizabeth.

55 iv. Mary Cory was born in 1868. She appeared on the census in 1881 in Age 13. She appeared on the census in 1901 in Not living with birth family. Mary Cory is shown in the 1881 Census as a 13 year old daughter of John and Elizabeth Cory.
