39. Christian Oke was born on 18 May 1788 in Devon, England. She was christened on 29 Jun 1788 in Bradworthy, Devon, England. She died on 24 Mar 1874 in Mariposa Township, Ontario. She was buried in Cemetery, 1007 Quaker Rd. RR#1 Oakwood, Mariposa, Ontario. We believe she was born in Devon in England. There is no record of her husband Thomas accompanying her to Canada. We believe that she immigrated to Canada approx. 1851 with her son John ( and perhaps Hugh).
Facts discovered.
John is the son of Christiana and Thomas.
The census of 1871 shows Christiana was living with Hugh Cory and family. This leads us to believe that Hugh and John were brothers or cousins, Hugh being the eldest of the two boys. This would appear to be natural event for the time period.

She is buried in the cemetery on Quaker Road, Mariposa Township with Hugh and John Cory.

Hugh's original farm would appear to be the farm located at 1025 Quaker Road, RR#1 Oakwood, in Mariposa Township. Current owner is Reg Garbutt.

Part of Hugh's property was severed for a Bible Christian church. This property is numbered 1007 Quaker Road. The church was either destroyed or moved from this site in 1897, but the graveyard remains. Dan Mitchell's home now stands to the east of the cemetery on this plot. Dan is currently taking care of the grounds and their maintenance. When Quaker Road was upgraded the last time the grave stones and any remains that were found were collected and moved to a central area of the grave yard high above the road and the large ditch between it and the road at that location. There is a concrete pad approx 12 x 24 feet into which the grave markers have been placed. There are three large vertical stones and the others are all slabs and have been laid flat in the concrete.

We found on December 26th 2001, Christiana's family through the LDS site and the tree at "Ancestry.com". It had been prepared by Kimberly Fraser. There are some interesting differences. Her name was listed as Christian Corey Husband Thomas Corey and one son John Corey. The birthdate is correct for month and day but out by one year which seems to be common when age is taken from census records.

She was married to Thomas Cory (son of Hugh Cory and Jane) on 21 Mar 1814 in Bradworthy, Devon, England. Thomas Cory was born on 8 Jan 1789 in Woolfardisworthy, Near Bideford, Devon, England.
