Rev. J. A. Edwards to visit Randboro October 8, 9 (1949)
Randboro, Sept 28, Rev. J. Arthur Edwards of Taunton Ma, will occupy the pulpit
of the Randboro Methodist Church on Sunday October, it was learned here today.
Rev. Edwards was pastor of the Randboro church in 1896, acting as assistant
to Rev. A. A. Hadley, pastor of the Sawyerville church. Later, as a student in
Wesley College Montreal he served as pastor at Montreal West.
During this pastorate he received a call to Iowa. Prior to going west he married
Maggie L Hamilton, daughter of the late John Hamilton of Randboro.
After serving in several churches in Iowa, he was appointed pastor of the First
Church in Deadwood SD. Following his pastorate there he was named superintendent
of the Black Hills Mission.
Rev and Mrs Edwards will be guests of Mr and Mrs Charles Montgomery, of Randboro
and will attend the annual harvest Festival and supper on October 8th.

Rev. J. Arthur Edwards of Taunton Ma formerly of Randboro
Randboro March 11th 1950 The community was shocked and saddened when it learned
of hte deth of Rev. J. Arthur Edwards at his home in Taunton Ma after a very
short illness.
Rev. Mr. edwards was born in Beggley Wales on July 8, 1875 the son of Mr.
and Mrs. George Edwards. he received most of his education in England, graduating
from the Public Schools there and later attended Wesley College and McGill university
in Montreal Canada. In recognition of his outstanding work he received special
ordination in Ottawa Canada.
He preached four years in Canada, his first charge being the Methodist Church
here in Randboro, now the United Church of Canada.
While here he was married to Maggie L Hamilton who survives him. He then went
to the United States where he preached for fifty years. He joined the Minnesota
Conference where he remained for ten years. he later became district superintendent
in the South Dakota Conference. During those years he was closely connected with
the Indian Tribes and was made a chief of one tribe. he also served as pastor
for five years at a large church in Minneapolis MN.
During World War I, he was a Y.M.C.A. secretary aboard a troop ship.
He was at one time national filed secretary of the Women's Home Missionary
Society.
He moved east in 1930 and was appointed to the pastorate of Embury Methodist
Church, Central Falls RI later he was pastor to Thompson Church Pawtucket RI
from which he retired in 1947.
Last year in July he moved to Taunton Ma where he passed away on February 20th.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret L Hamilton Edwards, formerly of Randboro;
one son, Foster H Edwards, of Hingman Mass. two grandchildren, Susan and Stephen
Edwards of Hingman Ma.; one brother Albert Edwards, residing in England.
Funeral services were held from Calvary Methodist Church on Wednesday Feb
22nd with internment in Mt Wollaston Cemetery at Quincy Ma.
Last October, Rev and Mrs Edwards spent a week-end here at the home of their
nephew Mr. Charles Montgomery and Mrs. Montgomery and on Thanksgiving Sunday
he took charge of service in the United Church preaching an interesting and inspiring
sermon. While in town they called on many relatives and old friends and visited
Mrs. Edward's old home, the arm now owned by George Speck.
Mr Edwards was a member of the Masonic fraternity. He had published a book
entitled, "A Menace to Christian Science".
