SECOND GENERATION
6 v.
William Hamilton was born on 13 Jun 1841 in Gore Township, District 17, Quebec.
He first appears in the census of 1851. He was not noted in family histories.
>From the St. Jerome Anglican records:
William, son of James Hamilton of Gore and of his wife Mary Hammond
was born on the thirteenth of June one thousand eight hundred and forty one and
was baptized on the tenth day of August in the same year by me ? Innes McMaster
Minister Sponsors Joseph Boyd, Jane Hammond and Matthew Hammond.
The last time we see him is in the 1861 census as labourer on his fathers farm
in the Gore. He is not mentioned as moving to Compton with the rest of the family
in 1865 and 1871 and is not seen in the census of 1871 with his parents or on
his own. Then several
years later I did find him in the 1870 Census for Vermont at the farm of Eugene
Chase and his wife Betsy. They are relatives of Irene Pierce who's mother was a
Chase. There were 2 other Hamilton Boys besides William age 29, that are listed as labourers on the farm. They were, John age 24 and James age 16. It is
interesting that John and James are not known in my line of Hamilton's so there
appears to be another Hamilton Family connection that we do not know about yet.
There are other Johns and James but none fit the age profileof James' and Mary's
children of that name.
In the Autobiography of William's brother Rev Joseph Hamilton we found
mention of William's death in Wisconsin which lead us to his family in the 1880
census of Wisconsin. In his
brothers autobiography on page 93 Joseph says he died on November 27th 1887 of
Typhoid Fever.1880 United States Federal Census about Wm. Hamilton Name:Wm.
