FIFTH GENERATION

17. Garth Allistair Hamilton was born on 21 Nov 1942 in Winnipeg Manitoba Grace Hospital Maturnity Ward. I was born in Winnipeg eldest son of Ron and Phyllis Hamilton or so I thought for many years. In the year 2000 I found that my youngest sister and youngest brother have birth cirtificates that show they are the fifth and sixth children born to my parents. So I guess I am the eldest surviving son. My family lived in Winnipeg until 1946 when we moved to Toronto, and then to the suburb of Mimico where I first went to school in 1948, attending John English Public School. We lived at 23 Warden St. off of Royal York Rd. three blocks from the lake. In 1951 we moved to the Niagara Parkway near Boyer's Creek south of Chipawa Ontario, here I attended Willoughby No2, a rural school with all eight grades in one room for grades 4 to 6. In 1954 my family moved to Elsah IL and I went to school in the village school, a two room school, graduating from grade 8 in 1956. I graduated from high school in 1960. I worked a year after finishing high school on the campus of Principia College. In the summer of 1961 I left home to work at a lodge in the Wisconsin Dells where I stayed until I received my call up for the Canadian Navy. It was the Canadian Navy, or be drafted into the US Armed Forces, or leave the US and not return. I joined the Navy at Winnipeg in Sept. 1961, for a three year term. My hope was to qualify for flight school but this did not happen due to my US Education. I did new entry training at Cornwallis NS and then went to Communications School there also, finishing in June 1962. After Comm School I was sent to ALbro Lake the Canadian Marine Ship Shore Station were I worked as a telegraph operator handling traffic from ships at sea both commercial and naval. From here I went to the Haida and when she was decommissioned I was drafted to the Bonnaventure and aircraft carrier. I was mustered out of the Navy in Sept 1964 . In 1965 I arrived in Toronto to get my pilot's license and eceived my commercial flying licence in 1966. Went to Africa in 1968 and stayed until 1972. I was a Senior game Warden for the Game Division of the Ministry of Agriculture and Tourism of Tanzania, East Africa in charge of aircraft and radio systems.

He was married to Dora Ann Savage (daughter of Frederic Henry Savage and Clara May Hadley) on 17 Oct 1970 in Etobicoke, Ontario. Dora Ann Savage was born on 17 Apr 1943 in Edmonton Alberta family lived in Style AB. I was born in Edmonton Alberta, but my family lived in Style AB where they ran a country store and post office next to the railway station. Style is located west of Edmonton on the CNR rail line to Jasper. In 1952 my parents decided to sell the store and farm and move to Toronto so my brother and I would get a better education. Here my parents purchased a corner store in the Lampton on the west side of Toronto and I graduated from Burnhamthorpe Collegiate and went on to attend Ryerson Polytechnic in secratarial science and finished two years before joining MacLean Hunter as a circulation assistant for the Financial Post Newspaper. I was active in our local church youth group and lived with my parents and Grandmother until I got married in 1970. Then it was off to Africa with my husband.
